Meta is reportedly working on smart glasses that would be recording all the time

New Prototype in Development: Meta is working on "super sensing" smart glasses designed to continuously record audio and capture photos every few seconds, allowing users to ask Meta AI about their surroundings in real time.

Privacy-Focused Data Processing: To mitigate privacy issues, Meta is considering a system where raw media isn't stored or shown to the user. Instead, only metadata extracted from the audio and images would be sent to servers for AI processing.

Controversial LED Indicator Plans: According to a 2025 whitepaper and the Financial Times, Meta plans to keep the LED recording light off during "super sensing" mode, reserving it only for explicit manual captures (like saving a video) to prevent user fatigue.

Mounting Privacy & Safety Concerns: The features arrive alongside existing backlash over facial recognition work, unwanted filming, and users tampering with recording LEDs (which Meta is addressing via software updates that disable the camera if tampering is detected).

Potential Rollout: Meta is weighing whether to use the gathered data for AI model training and may bring these continuous sensing capabilities to existing smart glasses.
